All the Rage: Taking on Spring’s Rebellious Runway Trends
Last month, the New York Times Style Mag highlighted the reinventions of the suit in trail-blazing, boundary-defying runway trends for spring. In particular, they showcased the iconoclastic, individualistic angles the classic suit can be given when combined with its sporty opposites. This motocross-inspired photo shoot is somehow soft and hard at the same time—high-brow and punk rolled into one—and it’s springtime’s foreshadowing of the edgy fall looks we already see on the horizon in Louis Vuitton’s ready-to-wear collection.
These creative takes have inspired us to take a new look at our collections of designer handbags with new eyes. We’ve searched out the rebellious, the road-ready, and the off-road-ready in our inventory in case you, too, are feeling the call to rage a little, release your inner road warrior, or reconnect with your disaffected youth!
Chanel Classic Flap Chain Me Around
This Chanel could have been made for this fashion moment. Here the Classic Flap brings tradition together with new edges. And the color fits perfectly into the springtime palette.
Louis Vuitton Explorer Briefcase Eclipse
Should you decide to hit the road in your own color-blocked suit outfit, you may want to ride with an understated don’t-mess-with-me-I-mean-business briefcase with detachable shoulder strap. This Louis Vuitton has just enough structure to dress up and just enough slouch to reject any notions of stuffiness.
Balenciaga Classic City Motorcycle Bag
Of course, nothing screams high fashion antihero like the Balenciaga Classic City bag. With the signature bits of fringe and buckle hardware, this bag is hip with an air of vintage grit. We love this bright motorcycle iteration, but check out others here.
Louis Vuitton Mabillon Backpack Epi
In sleek contrast, this Mabillon Backpack would be just perfect as you slide onto the seat of some motorized bike situation…or at least you’d look like you could if you wanted to. We love imagining this compact shape paired with some of the softened suit looks we’re seeing this spring.
Louis Vuitton Twist
There’s something sporty and mischievous about the Louis Vuitton Twist shown here in a compact wallet and an MM Epi with a shoulder strap. Again, we love the in-your-face colors of the leather, and can we take a moment to appreciate the sassy pink interior of the MM Epi?
MCM Quilted Leather Backpack
Finally, we love how the studded emblems on this MCM backpack resemble some of the racing patches of the sporty suit re-interpretations. Depending on how you want to style this little number, you could bring out the coziness of the classy quilting or lean into the brassiness of the hardware.
It’s all in the attitude these days. Wear whatever you choose to wear with confidence!
